スーパーで知らない人に挨拶してしまった

なんてこったぁ～～～～～～。
スーパーで買い物をしていると、
以前非常にお世話になった人に
バッタリ会いました。
「こんにちは！」と明るい笑顔で
挨拶して「今日はよいお天気ですね」
と話しかけたところ、
なんだか様子が変でした。
お世話になったその方は奥様と一緒に買い物をされていました。お二人に「こんにちは」と声をかけると、旦那様のほうは、私を見て困ったような顔になり、少し沈黙がありましたが、奥様のほうが「こんにちは」と返してくれたのでホッとして、「その節はお世話になりました」と改めて感謝の言葉を述べました。奥様は「とんでもないです。お役に立てて良かったです」と言って会話が続きました。旦那様のほうは、アゴに手をあてたり、天井と私の顔を交互に見て、落ち着かないようでした。実際にお世話になったのは旦那様のほうなのになぁ、具合が悪いいのかなぁ、と思いつつも、奥様と私はたわいもない世間話で盛り上がりました。5分くらいお話をしてからお互いに買い物を再開。買い物を続けていると、商品の棚越しに奥様と旦那様が話をしているのが聞こえました。
夫：「あの人誰？」
妻：「知らないわよ」
夫：「でも普通に話してたじゃん」
妻：「そりゃ、ご近所の人っぽかったので挨拶ぐらいはしておこうと思ったのよ」
夫：「俺達はなんのお世話をしたんだろう？」
妻：「そんなことはどうでもいいのよ」
妻：「おまえっていい加減だな」
この会話を聞いて、私が人まちがえをしたことを確信しました。知らない人と知らない人が話していたわけです。早々にレジでお金を払って店を出ました。

I greeted the stranger at the supermarket.
Oh my goodness! When I was shipping at the supermarket, I bumped into the man who helped me before. When I said “Hello. It’s such beautiful weather today.” with a sunny smile, he seemed strange.
The man who has helped me was shopping with his wife. When I said “Hello.” to them, the husband came to look perplexed; the silence continued for a while. But the wife said hello back to me, and I was relieved. I said, “Thank you for all your help on that occasion.” to them again. She said, “No problem. We are glad that we could help you out.” Our conversation continued.
The husband seemed to be nervous, looking at the ceiling and my face alternately. I wonder if it was the husband that helped me directly. The wife and I were excited to talk about small talk. After we finished talking for about 5 minutes, we started shopping again. While shopping, I heard them talking through the product shelves
Husband: Who was that lady?
Wife : I don’t know her.
Husband: But you were usually talking, weren’t you?
Wife : So, I think it’s safe to say hello to her.
Husband : I wonder if how we helped her.
Wife : I don’t care about that.
Husband : You talk irresponsibly.
When I heard this conversation, I noticed that I mistook them for other people. It follows that the strange person was talking to the unfamiliar person. I paid money at the cash register early and leave the supermarket.
