Would you like to go to Kyoto to watch beautiful Buddhist statues? Sanjusangendo is one of the most famous temples as a national treasure that has1001 Buddhist statues. The temple, burnt down in 1164, rebuilt.

美しい仏像を観に京都に行きませんか？ 三十三間堂は国宝として最も有名な寺院の一つで、1001体の仏像があります。寺院は1164年に建立されましたが、初代の建物は火事で焼けてしまったため、100年前に再建されました。
National treasure
The temple measures 120 meters long and is the longest wooden temple in Japan. The name Sanjusangendo derives from the number of intervals between the building’s support columns, a traditional method of measuring the size of a building. Sanjyusan means 33, which columns support the temple. In the center of the main temple, wooden statues called a 1000-armed Kannon to sit: 500 statues of human-sized 1000-armed Kannon are standing on both sides of the center in ten rows. It is a very spectacular sight; I do want you to see them with your own eyes. You can also enjoy a beautiful garden with pretty cherry blossoms in spring.
国宝
寺院は全長120メートルで、日本で最長の木造建造物です。三十三間堂という名前は、建物を建立するときの伝統的な技法である、建物を支える支柱の数に由来しています。Sanjyusanは日本語では33のことで、33本の柱が寺院を支えているのです。ホールの中央には、大きな木製の、千本の腕を持つ観音像が鎮座しています。仏像は中心部から500体ずつ両サイドに配置されており、十列になっています。とても荘厳な光景です。是非とも自分の目で見てほしいと思います。春には庭で美しい桜の花を楽しむ事ができますよ。
Cannon statue
1000-armed Kannon has 11 heads so that it can watch over the worry of humans and its arms are for helping people fight the sufferings. They have only 42 arms. Why? Subtract the two regular arms and multiply by 25. It becomes 1000. 25 means the number that Buddha can help a human with one hand. 1000 means infinity in Buddhism. 1001 Buddha statues symbolize the infinite mercy of Buddha. I’m sure you are impressed with the exuberant mercy of Buddha there. When I saw these statues first, the tear came into my eyes.
観音像
1000本の腕を持つ観音像は、11個の頭を持ち、人間の苦しみをよく見ており、苦しみから人間を救うための1000の腕を持つと言われています。実際には42本の腕しかありませんが、元々の二本の腕を差し引いて、40を25倍してみてください。1000になりますよね。25というのは仏様の一本の手で人間を救う方法の数だそうです。1000とは、仏教では無限を意味しています。1001体の仏像は御仏の無限の慈悲を意味しているのです。三十三間堂にいくと、溢れんばかりの仏様の御心に感動しますよ。最初に拝観した時には涙がでました。
talisman
The public isn’t allowed to take pictures inside the Sanjusangendo hall. You can purchase the official postcards within the temple. You can also buy various kinds of talisman. I bought one for my mother who has been suffering asthma. Thanks for this talisman, my mother’s cough was healed. I’m sure that a Buddha statue called Senjyukannon, which has infinite methods of helping people, healed my mother.
お守り
三十三間堂では写真撮影が許可されていません。寺院の中で公式ハガキを購入することができます。お守りも色んなのを買うことができます。咳で困っていた母にひとつお守りを買って帰りました。お守りのご利益があって母の咳はすっかり治りました。きっと無限の救済方法を知っている千手観音様が母を癒してくれたのでしょう。
How to enjoy statues
In front of 1001 Buddha statues, you can see 28 Buddhist deities that protect the universe and the two temple guardians; the god of thunder (Raijin) and the god of wind (Fujin). You will be surprised at their appearance, which is life-like. Especially, as for eyes, you will feel like their eyes are about to take you in. Your heart will be full. You will speak to 1001 Buddha statues in your heart while you are walking along a corridor; I want you to heal my headache. Don’t utter a voice! You might be thought to be a madman (lol). The god has enormous power to heal or help your suffering. They say that at least one of the statues can help you. Their faces are different from each other. There is no same face among these. You can find one statue that resembles you. They arrange so that you can see all the faces of statues one by one. When you can find one that resembles you, you will be able to get the enormous goddess power and heal yourself. Great !!
こうすれば楽しみ倍増！
1001体の仏像の前に、宇宙と寺院の守護神である28部衆の仏像があります。寺院の守護神は、雷神と風神です。まるで生きているかのような風貌にびっくりしますよ。特に目に関しては、吸い込まれそうな感じ。感動で胸がいっぱいになります。廊下を歩きながら、心の中で1001体の仏像に話しかけてください。「私の頭痛を治してください」とかね。声に出してはダメですよ。気が振れていると思われたら困りますからね^^。神聖なる慈悲のパワーはあなたを苦しみから救う絶大なパワーを発揮します。1001体の仏様のうち少なくとも一体の仏様が助けてくださると言われています。なんと、一体ずつ顔が違うんですよ。ひとつとして同じ顔はありません。あなたに似ている仏像に出会えたら、すごいパワーが働いて救ってくださるかもしれませんよ。すごい！
Access
Sanjusangendo is located next to the Hakubutsukan-Sanjusangendo-mae bus stop (230 yen from Kyoto Station by bus numbers 100, 206 or 208) or a five-minute walk from Shichijo Station along the Keihan Line.
アクセス
博物館三十三間堂前というバス停からすぐ。100, 206, 208番のバスで230円。京阪線の七条駅からだと歩いて5分です。
Alternatively, it takes about twenty minutes to walk there from Kyoto Station (1.6km). You don’t have to follow a particular route on foot as the streets in Kyoto are laid out in a rough grid system. Work your way north to the next major east-west road which is Shichijo Dori then east, crossing the river until you come to the temple on the right.
また、京都駅から歩くと20分かかります（1.6㎞）。京都のストリートは格子状に区画整理されていますので、特定のルートに従う必要はありません。七條通りという東西にはしるメインの通りを北に向かって歩きますと、川がありますのでそこを渡ってください。右側に寺院が見えてきますよ。
